Omnisend

Email and lifecycle integration

Make referrals part of your Omnisend emails

Give customers a way to recommend your brand in the emails they already receive. Import your Omnisend audience into ReferralCandy, put each advocate’s personal link on their Omnisend profile, and follow up when they refer a friend or earn a reward.

Rolling out gradually. If the Omnisend tab is missing in ReferralCandy, contact support to request access.

Why connect Omnisend

Give the customers who know you a way to share.

Your Omnisend audience already has a relationship with your brand. Connect that audience to your referral program so an invitation to share can include each customer’s personal link. Referral events give you the context to keep the conversation relevant as they participate.

Invite the audience you choose

Import all Omnisend contacts or a selected segment into ReferralCandy. Contacts with email addresses enroll as advocates; later imports update existing contacts without duplicates.

Put personal links in everyday emails

ReferralCandy writes a separate referral-link property for each campaign to Omnisend. Use it to personalize newsletters, campaigns, and automations.

Respond to referral activity

Use real-time enrollment, referred-purchase, and reward-earned events to trigger the Omnisend automations you create.

See it in your stack

Build the program around your customer journey.

Start with the integration you already run, then shape the campaign, reward, and message around the relationships your brand has earned.

How it works

How to connect Omnisend and ReferralCandy

Connect your account, review your email settings, then bring in your first audience.

  1. 1

    Authorize Omnisend

In ReferralCandy, go to Integrations → Omnisend and click Connect Omnisend. Approve the access request in Omnisend. No API key is needed.

  2. 2

    Choose who sends each email

Before importing, review Campaigns → your campaign → Emails in ReferralCandy. Turn off any emails you want Omnisend to replace, for each active campaign.

  3. 3

    Import and personalize

Under Import contacts, choose All contacts or a segment and click Sync now. After the import, use the campaign-specific referral-link custom property in your Omnisend emails.

  4. 4

    Enable new-subscriber enrollment

Click Enable under Real-time sync to create the managed Omnisend automation. Your Omnisend account must be connected to your store and your plan must support webhooks.

Ways to use the integration

Keep the invitation close to the customer.

Choose the messages that fit your referral program and build them in Omnisend. ReferralCandy provides the personal links and activity events.

Invite

Start with a familiar audience

Choose an Omnisend segment, such as repeat customers, for your first referral invitation. Expand to more contacts when you are ready.

Share

Add a referral link to your newsletter

Use the rc_referral_link_<campaign short code> custom property to give each advocate their own sharing link. Check that your recipients have that campaign’s link before sending.

Follow up

Recognize an earned reward

Create an Omnisend automation for the reward-earned event. A referred-purchase event can arrive before review is complete, so match your message to the advocate’s actual progress.

Who it is for

For brands that already reach customers through Omnisend.

Bring your referral program into the newsletters and automations your team already manages.

  • Import an existing audience or selected segment
  • Personalize emails with each advocate’s referral link
  • Enroll new marketing subscribers through optional real-time sync

Questions, answered

Omnisend integration FAQ

Marketing overview first. When you are ready to configure the integration, the technical guide has the exact settings.

What does the Omnisend integration do?

It imports Omnisend contacts into ReferralCandy, writes campaign-specific referral links and an advocate flag to Omnisend, sends real-time referral events, and offers optional automatic enrollment for new marketing subscribers.

Do I need an Omnisend API key?

No. Click Connect Omnisend under Integrations → Omnisend in ReferralCandy, then approve the access request in Omnisend.

Can I import only one segment?

Yes. Choose All contacts or a single Omnisend segment. Only contacts with an email address are imported. The import runs when you click Sync now; it is not a recurring schedule.

What is added to an Omnisend contact?

ReferralCandy writes rc_referral_link_<campaign short code> for each campaign and sets referralcandy_advocate to true. Use the link properties for personalization and the advocate flag for segmentation.

Will contacts receive emails when I import them?

Newly enrolled advocates receive whichever ReferralCandy emails are enabled, including the Welcome email. If Omnisend will handle those messages, turn the corresponding ReferralCandy emails off under Campaigns → your campaign → Emails before importing. Repeat for each active campaign.

Does ReferralCandy send emails through Omnisend?

No. ReferralCandy sends contact properties and referral events to Omnisend. You configure the campaigns and automations that send email there. Both tools can send their own messages independently.

How do new subscribers enroll automatically?

Enable Real-time sync in ReferralCandy. It creates a managed Omnisend automation for new marketing subscriptions. Subscribers need an email address, your Omnisend account must be connected to your store, and your plan must support webhooks.

What happens if I disconnect Omnisend?

Imports and referral-link updates stop, and the managed subscriber automation is removed. Existing custom properties remain in Omnisend and enrolled advocates stay in ReferralCandy. Any ReferralCandy emails you switched off must be re-enabled manually if you want to use them again.
