Klaviyo

Email and lifecycle integration

Referral and affiliate marketing that runs through Klaviyo

Give your lifecycle team referral data it can act on. ReferralCandy sends campaign activity to Klaviyo as events and campaign-specific custom properties, so enrollment, referred purchases, reward progress, earned rewards, and personal sharing links can trigger flows, personalize messages, and shape high-intent segments.

One-click connection from the ReferralCandy integrations page.

Why connect Klaviyo

Referral data becomes part of your lifecycle engine.

This is more than another list to broadcast to. ReferralCandy events record the moments that matter, custom properties add campaign context to each Klaviyo profile, and both can be used to build segments. Your team can respond to referral behavior with the same precision it brings to the rest of the customer journey.

01

Trigger flows from referral behavior

Use events such as campaign enrollment, a referred purchase, or a reward earned to start and branch Klaviyo flows around real participation.

02

Personalize with campaign context

Insert each advocate’s personal link, approved referral count, distance to the next reward, or next reward description from their Klaviyo profile.

03

Build audiences around advocacy intent

Create Klaviyo segments for enrolled advocates, proven referrers, customers near the next reward tier, or contacts who changed their referral-email preferences.

Events, custom properties, and segments

Turn referral activity into lifecycle audiences and messages.

ReferralCandy gives Klaviyo both the moment and the context. Events tell your flow what just happened. Custom properties describe the advocate and their progress. Together, they let your lifecycle team build segments and journeys that respond to referral intent.

01

Klaviyo metrics

Trigger on the moments that matter

ReferralCandy sends named events to Klaviyo as referral and affiliate activity happens, and updates the profile’s campaign properties when those events fire.

  • RC - Enrolled

Welcome a contact when they enter a referral or affiliate campaign.

  • RC - Purchase referred by profile detected

Respond when an advocate’s personal link generates a purchase.

  • RC - Reward earned

Celebrate the result and explain the reward that was earned.

  • RC - Unsubscribed from campaign emails

Keep referral-email targeting aligned with the contact’s preference.

02

Profile fields

Personalize with custom properties

Each campaign has its own short code, so its ReferralCandy properties stay identifiable on the Klaviyo profile and can be inserted through Klaviyo’s Personalization picker.

  • Portal link and Referral Link

Take each advocate back to their own sharing destination.

  • Referred purchase accumulated

Show the number of approved, rewardable referrals already achieved.

  • Purchases needed for next reward

Make the distance to the next reward tier tangible.

  • Next reward description

Remind advocates what they are working toward.

03

Dynamic audiences

Segment by referral intent

ReferralCandy campaign enrollment is visible in Klaviyo, and Klaviyo segments can combine ReferralCandy events and properties for targeted email and SMS.

  • Enrolled in a specific campaign

Target contacts using RC - Enrolled filtered by campaign name.

  • Has earned at least N rewards

Find proven advocates using reward events or approved referral progress.

  • Close to the next reward tier

Nudge advocates who are only one or two approved purchases away.

  • Unsubscribed from referral emails

Exclude or route contacts based on their campaign-email status.

How it works

From a ReferralCandy event to a Klaviyo message

The page design mirrors a lifecycle flow: connect once, choose a signal, add the personal context, and send the message.

  1. 1

    Connect Klaviyo

Open Integrations in ReferralCandy, choose Klaviyo, and approve the one-click connection. ReferralCandy then appears as an enabled integration.

  2. 2

    Choose the campaign signal

Start with an event such as RC - Enrolled, RC - Purchase referred by profile detected, or RC - Reward earned, then filter it to the right campaign.

  3. 3

    Add campaign properties

Use Klaviyo’s Personalization picker to insert the correct campaign-specific portal link, referral link, progress toward the next reward, or reward description.

  4. 4

    Build the flow or segment

Set timing, filters, channels, and creative in Klaviyo, or combine ReferralCandy signals into a reusable audience for targeted email and SMS.

Signals with context

Build messages around what the advocate just did.

Events tell Klaviyo when something happened. Campaign-specific custom properties give the message the context it needs. Segments turn both into audiences your team can keep using.

Enroll

Welcome new advocates

Use RC - Enrolled as a flow trigger and place the participant’s personal portal or referral link directly in the message.

Progress

Nudge the next referral

Use accumulated approved referrals, referrals needed for the next reward, and the next reward description to make progress visible.

Reward

Close the loop

Use RC - Reward earned and its reward details to notify the advocate after a successful referral becomes rewardable.

Who it is for

For lifecycle teams that want referrals to behave like a real customer program.

This integration fits brands that already use Klaviyo as the operating layer for customer communication and want referral behavior to inform those journeys.

  • Teams replacing separate referral email blasts with event-led flows
  • Brands building high-intent segments from reward progress and referral behavior
  • Multi-campaign programs that need campaign-specific properties and triggers

Questions, answered

Klaviyo integration FAQ

Marketing overview first. When you are ready to configure the integration, the technical guide has the exact settings.

How do ReferralCandy and Klaviyo connect?

The current setup uses a one-click authorization flow from ReferralCandy’s Klaviyo integration page. After approval, the integration shows as connected.

What ReferralCandy events can trigger a Klaviyo flow?

Supported events include enrollment, signup form submission, referred purchase detection, reward earned, campaign email subscription changes, and contact status changes.

Can I add a personal referral link to a Klaviyo message?

Yes. ReferralCandy sends personal referral and portal links as profile properties. Insert them through Klaviyo’s personalization picker for the correct campaign.

Can Klaviyo show progress toward the next reward?

Yes. ReferralCandy properties include approved referred purchases accumulated, the number still needed for the next reward, and a description of that reward.

Can I build Klaviyo segments from ReferralCandy activity?

Yes. Use ReferralCandy events and custom properties to build audiences such as contacts enrolled in a specific campaign, advocates who have earned a given number of rewards, or advocates who are close to their next reward tier.

How do ReferralCandy campaign segments appear in Klaviyo?

When a contact is enrolled in a targeted ReferralCandy campaign segment, Klaviyo records the RC - Enrolled event and receives that campaign’s custom properties on the contact profile.

Are ReferralCandy custom properties the same across every campaign?

No. Each campaign has a unique short code in its Klaviyo property names. Select the property through Klaviyo’s Personalization picker so the message uses the correct campaign-specific field.

Should ReferralCandy and Klaviyo both send the same referral email?

No. If Klaviyo will send a campaign email, turn off the equivalent email in ReferralCandy so customers do not receive duplicate messages.
